About Pinelands Players The society was formed in 1948 as the St. Stephens Pinelands Repertory Society. It was originally formed to raise funds to funds to repay a loan raised to build the Victory Hall at St. Stephens Anglican Church in Pinelands. Over many years the St. Stephens Pinelands Repertory Society contributed to the hall by building a stage, installing light banks and making the space over time, a comfortable little theatre. It's interesting to note that the theatre where the Pinelands Players now stage their major productions is known as the "Little Theatre" In 1986 the church felt that the hall should be used for less secular activities and so the St. Stephens Pinelands Repertory Society set out to find a new home and indeed, a new identity. Now renamed the Pinelands Players, this vagabond group were left homeless until in 1992 they began staging productions at the Little Theatre on the Hiddingh Campus of The University of Cape Town. In 1996 after three years of negotiation, an old railway electrical substation in Pinelands was leased from the Municipality and converted into a Clubhouse and home base for the society. Over the years Pinelands Players have staged many well known musicals and plays such as The Yeoman of the Guard (1952) and An Inspector Calls (1978) More recent productions include , People Are Living There (2001), Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat (2003) , Oklahoma in 2005, and The Wizard of Oz in 2008. This year we are staging A Christmas Carol, A Pantomime in Pinelands, Written by Alistair Clinton, directed by Kyla Thorburn with musical direction by Bill Holland. Currently smaller productions are rehearsed at the Clubhouse and the larger shows are rehearsed at local halls available in Pinelands. Annually, Candlelight Supper Theatre productions are staged in the Pinelands Town Hall. This is a good, versatile space with a wonderful ambience. Over the years these smaller productions have been well supported and have become a good vehicle for taking theatre into the community, very much part of what Pinelands Players are about! In 2008 Pinelands Players celebrated 60 years since inception and have to date staged 177 productions!
